When you install a PV system, it can either be tied to the APS power grid (“grid tied”) or installed as a standalone system (“off-grid”). With a grid tied system, you can still draw electricity from the APS grid when your PV system is not producing enough energy to meet your needs. Homeowners can claim a 25% tax credit (maximum of $1,000 credit) on solar devices installed on a residence. This is a one time tax credit and restricts the homeowner for additional credits for solar purchases made for the same residence in subsequent years. Commercial benefits are available also, to include grants from the Federal Government. |

The federal business energy tax credit is a 30% tax credit available to commercial businesses that invest in or purchase energy property in the United States. The 30% tax credit is also available to homeowners uncapped (part of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008). | |
